  • Every thirty seconds, a child dies from malaria, a preventable and treatable disease
  • More than 17 million Africans have died from AIDS, a largely preventable disease, leaving 12 million orphaned children
  • One in ten Ugandan mothers die from pregnancy-related causes
  • The rise in fuel costs coupled with food shortages have sent the price of food skyrocketing in the developing world

The numbers are nothing short of staggering, but with a domestic economic crisis, who can really do anything about it?

Upon the birth of her first child, Vivian Glyck realized that every mother loves her children and that every child is just like her child and deserves the same opportunities that Vivian provides her son, Zak. That is when she set out to create change one country, one village, one family at a time.

Just Like My Child raises money through grants and donations for education, healthcare, and microfinance projects in central Uganda in a community of 600,000 people and 48 villages. They ensure the long-term sustainability of their projects through Deep Development™, a process which "Invests in Independence" and ensures that communities are involved in the projects and that permanent social change is integrated into the programs.

Just Like My Child and Vivian Glyck have received awards and grants for their work, but smaller gifts have shown up in some really special ways. One child has shaved her head twice as part of her effort to help raise awareness and money (see a video about her here). A young boy raised a substantial amount of money at his Bar Mitzvah as his way of giving back. The newest fundraising effort at Just Like My Child is Be the Change. An outreach to children in schools, they are encouraged to raise money while learning about Uganda, its people, and the issues they are facing.
